This is a report exploring research in the NWT from 2000 to 2009.
There is Federal, Territorial and Aboriginal Land Claim/Treaty legislation under which multiple research regulatory agencies administer permitting responsibilities. With more than a single piece of legislation in place for the regulation of research, there is potential for areas of overlap amongst the various regulatory agencies. The retrospective analysis took permitting information for the NWT from 2000 to 2009 to examine these areas of overlap, essentially documenting the permitting burden on researchers conducting NWT research projects.
The report, however, goes beyond the regulatory processes and shows a variety of trends that should interest anyone who works directly or indirectly with research in the NWT.
