The Aurora Research Institute provides logistical support for researchers in the NWT from the Inuvik Research Centre, the North Slave Research Centre in Yellowknife and the South Slave Research Centre in Fort Smith. There is a wide variety of services to support research programs from each of these locations. Please see individual facility pages for more details.
The Inuvik Research Centre provides logistical support for research in many ways. These include a variety of field equipment rentals, lab space, office space, library services, fridge/freezers, a workshop, accommodations, staging areas, airport pick-ups and internet access (refer to the fee schedule). The Fort Smith facility provides office space for use by researchers, shared laboratory and GIS capabilities, access to Thebacha Campus Library and internet.
Research and monitoring support from both Inuvik and Fort Smith can also be provided on a contractual basis as well as the facilitation of hiring local research assistants, wildlife monitors and/or technician assistance. To a certain extent, ARI staff members’ local knowledge may prove valuable for research/monitoring location recommendations, journey management and wildlife insight.
