The Aurora Research Institute (ARI) conducts GIS research as part of its operations. GIS is a computerized system used to make maps and conduct spatial analyses. For example, GIS can be used to determine where prime wildlife habitat is located or where human diseases are prevalent. GIS can also be used to map traditional knowledge of resources or to complete biodiversity assessments.
GIS services are available for researchers on a cost recovery basis. The Aurora Research Institute (ARI) uses ArcGIS 10.0, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst and Geostatistical Analyst software to complete GIS analyses and mapping. ARI staff can help with your mapping and analysis needs.
ARI staff members also provide GIS training at Aurora College and can offer short courses using ArcGIS and Google Earth on a cost recovery basis. Courses are available on a variety of topics and can be suited to a range of skill levels; our GIS specialists can work with you on simple tasks such as creating basic maps, or on more complex things like conducting spatial analysis.
